A joint venture between the University of Adelaide, ARI, and Telstra Corp. Ltd was recognised last week with an Honourable Mention award for Best Research and Development Collaboration in the 2014 BHERT (Business Higher Education Round Table) Awards.
The university’s Teletraffic Research Centre (TRC) has created TelAri Analytics, a capacity management tool for cellular networks, to help avoid two undesirable network situations: ‘over dimensioning’ (spending capital expenditure (CAPEX) prematurely), and ‘under dimensioning’ (not spending CAPEX and risking customer churn). In its first year of operation, Telstra estimates that the tool enabled them to defer 38% of their previously planned CAPEX.
The prestigious BHERT awards were announced at an event in Melbourne on 20 November. Paul Arthur, who leads the ARI commercial development team for Engineering, Maths & Computer Science (ECMS), accepted the award on behalf of the TelAri partnership.
The tool is now being commercialised on a global basis via a deal with Ascom and is currently being rebranded for international markets. For more information about the tool, view the Ascom TEMS™ Capacity Manager web page.
