Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science

Nominations for the 2015 Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science is now open for the first stage (shortlisting). Submissions close on 26 March at 5.00 pm Canberra local time.

The Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science recognise excellence in science and science teaching. The six prizes totaling $700,000 in prize money are:

  • Prime Minister’s Prize for Science
  • Prime Minister’s Prize for the Commercial Application of Science (new prize in 2015)
  • Frank Fenner Prize for Life Scientist of the Year
  • Malcolm McIntosh Prize for Physical Scientist of the Year
  • Prime Minister’s Prize for Excellence in Science Teaching in Primary Schools
  • Prime Minister’s Prize for Excellence in Science Teaching in Secondary Schools

The new Prime Minister’s Prize for the Commercial Application of Science has been added to recognise excellence in Australian research commercialisation resulting from the translational impact of applied science.  It aims to promote building better links between researchers and industry, and encourage entrepreneurial spirit in our business and research communities.

Nominators are advised to refer to the nomination guidelines when submitting a nomination, because these will form the basis of assessment.
