Congratulations to Professor Mike McLaughlin (School of Agriculture, Food and Wine), who has been elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science.

Professor McLaughlin’s outstanding research combines fundamental science and commercial application. His laboratory is regarded internationally as a leader in the development and evaluation of fertiliser technologies. Among his many achievements are concepts to recognise soil and environmental variability in contaminant risk assessments, which have been adopted internationally and recognised by both United States and European Union regulators.

His research has gained strong commercial success and he has played a key role in a strategic alliance with The Mosaic Company LLC, to develop new crop nutrition products. This collaboration has been able to create new techniques to develop and screen new products that are able to increase fertiliser efficiency and crop yield for farmers, improve the value of crops for human consumption, and reduce adverse environmental effects.
